Love the Ultimate Weapon In the novel, the House of the Spirits the power of love shows no matter the obstacles, situations or beliefs, love will always prevail. Love is a powerful weapon, it can make someone do anything for their loved ones. There are many relationships in this novel whether it is blood or true love for someone you cannot live without. Throughout the novel the relationships have a struggle of staying alive. Blanca and Pedro had the worst struggle of keeping their love alive. Many factors played a part in trying to separate them. Blanca is from the high-class, while Pedro is a servant. To them that means nothing, but to Blanca’s father, Esteban Trueba, that means everything. Love is not easy to keep alive, two people must put work into a relationship, and they did just that. Alba the daughter of Blanca and Pedro falls in love with Miguel the younger brother of Amanda. Miguel was there the day Blanca was born. After eighteen years Miguel sees Alba and it is love at first sight. When Blanca and Alba moved back home, Alba and Esteban grew very close, as if they were father and daughter. He taught and showed her many things. When he found out she was in love with Miguel he did not approve. Esteban was a part of the conservative party, in favor of everything staying the same. Miguel being a part of the lower-class he was communist and wanted equal rights for everyone. Alba was not into politics, but Miguel was a revolutionary who joined the guerrillas after the military coup. Alba devoted herself to Miguel. Even though she was not into politics she would help with protest. She started to parrot a lot of Miguel’s political views, she would even get into debates with people. Alba and Miguel had love at first sight. She met Miguel while she was in college. She even hid her connection to Senator Trueba, so she can hang out with the revolutionary crowd. It did not matter that she was not into politics. She did everything to show her love and devotion to Miguel.
